As one of the more badly affected areas in the Chch quakes, and home to a number of Axemen buddies, former members and supporters, Lyttelton was high on our ‘must-do’ list when tour planning.
With the assistance of legendary chch promoter Al Park, Ros Dixon and Joanne Billesdon along with many others, we secured the Naval Point Yacht Club in Lyttelton on a summery Friday nite.
A fantastic venue, friendly atmosphere and great bands, the lineup consisted of Dark Matter (Stephen Cogels current band) , LoLiners, The Cranks and the Axemen, with interstitial spiels from Hamish Kilgour and Louise ‘Gorgeous Disorders’ Payne.
Extra special guest for the evening was formidable NZ rock royalty matriarch Mrs Kilgour, who was heard to quip ‘I wish my boys band was as good as you lads!’
Nautical coves, Lyttelton locals and out-of-town punters alike revelled in perfect harmony to the sultry beats of this fabled collection of iconic christchurch anti – establishment rabble, and for a moment it was as if the quake had never happened. Great evening, great turnout, great support from everyone… Thanks especially to Al, Joanne, Ros , Dave Mulcahy for making it happen, and Dark Matter, Loliners, Cranks and Louise for making it a magical evening with an intriguing variety of sounds 🙂
